Online tutoring as an option for school students.

The COVID-19 pandemic left big impact on education around the world. As a result of widespread lockdowns and social distancing measures, many schools and universities were forced to close their doors and shift to remote learning. This has resulted in a significant increase in the use of online learning platforms and digital educational resources. Additionally, the pandemic has highlighted and exacerbated existing disparities in access to education, particularly for students from low-income families and rural areas. The pandemic also has an impact on the mental health of student, teachers, and parents. Overall, it has been a challenging time for educators and students, but it has also led to new ways of thinking about and delivering education. Province of Alberta was not exception from this changes.

Online education and tutoring entered our lives and become a good alternative choice because it offers several advantages over in-person tutoring classes. Some of these advantages include:

  • Convenience and flexibility: Online tutoring allows students to access tutoring from anywhere with an internet connection, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule. This also enables students to learn at their own pace.

  • A wider selection of tutors: With online tutoring, students can choose from a global pool of educators, increasing the chances of finding a tutor who is a good match for their learning style and needs.

  • Increased accessibility: Online tutoring can be beneficial for students with disabilities or those in remote areas, who may have limited options for in-person tutoring.

  • Cost-effectiveness: Online tutoring may be cheaper than in-person tutoring, as there are no transportation costs and less overhead costs for the tutors.

  • Flexibility in teaching methods: Some students may learn better through visual aids, audio, or interactive exercises. Online tutoring allows tutors to use different tools, like screen sharing and recording, to cater to students' learning style.

  • Recordings for future reference: Many online tutoring platforms provide the option to record the session, which can be helpful for students to review the material later.

There are several potential downsides to online tutoring that could make it a less effective choice for some students. Some possible reasons include:

  • Lack of personal interaction: Online tutoring may lack the personal interaction and connection that can be found in in-person tutoring, which can make it less effective for some students.

  • Technical difficulties: Online tutoring can be hindered by technical difficulties such as internet connectivity issues, which can disrupt the tutoring session and make it less productive.

  • Distractions: Online tutoring is done remotely, so students may be more likely to be distracted by other things in their environment, such as their phone or other electronic devices.

  • Limited feedback: Depending on the platform used, online tutors may not be able to provide as much immediate feedback as an in-person tutor, which can make it harder for students to make progress.

It's important to note that online tutoring can be effective for some students and many people prefer it, but it may not be the best choice for everyone. At Flying Minds online tutoring is taking to whole new level. School students can register for online courses and get 2 hours of live online classes every week, plus ongoing support from our mentors who will be answering their questions in between classes. We don't use white board, we use actual board and teacher who will be solving problems on the actual board. No more invisible teachers who hide behind the screen. Real live sessions. The lunch of the first course is in February 2023. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to stay updated.
